Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Float Pool position requiring 2+ years of MedSurg experience and WI or compact RN licensure.

Details

• Float Pool position within a 101-bed Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
• Floats to MedSurg units (MS1 General, MS2 Ortho/Neuro, MS2 Cardiac) and anywhere in the hospital with MedSurg patients, including ER Holding/Boarding
• Unit sizes range from 23-24 beds depending on assignment
• Patient population includes general medical, surgical, oncology (non-chemo administration), ortho, neuro, and cardiac post-procedure cases
• Occasional pediatric patients (over 1 year old) on the floor, though no peds patients are assigned
• Patient ratios: 1:4-6 days, 1:6 nights
• 12-hour day shifts, 36 hours per week, with weekend rotation (Fri/Sat/Sun, every other weekend)
• Shift times vary between 0645-1915 and 1845-0715
• No on-call requirements
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 50% of holidays within the contract
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Uses Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Requirements

• Active WI or compact RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Skills required: chest tube management, stable trach care, IV skills, port/central line care, CPAP/BiPAP/Airvo familiarity, foley insertion/care, feeding tube management, cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Experience titrating drips (Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, argatroban) preferred; manager approval needed if no prior experience
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN
• Candidate DOB and last 4 digits of SSN required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across multiple MedSurg specialties including oncology, ortho/neuro, and cardiac units
• Support staff includes HUC (days only), CNAs, charge nurse, phlebotomy, 24/7 RT and hospitalist coverage, and remote tele monitoring
• May be asked to assist with tele monitoring if tele techs are short-staffed
• Orientation includes one full shift for login/paperwork setup and one 12-hour unit orientation shift
• Schedule is released 4-6 weeks in advance, with block scheduling considered upon request
• RTO requests go through the unit manager
• Scrub requirement: any solid, professional color with no graphics or logos
