Description

American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg RN with 2+ years of experience for a night shift position in a fast-paced inpatient surgical overflow unit.

Details

• Inpatient medical surgical overflow unit handling pediatric surgical patients aged 12 and older depending on procedure
• Patient population includes general, abdominal, urological, orthopedic, hysterectomy, mastectomy, spine, and bariatric surgery cases
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-07:00
• Every other weekend required
• Floating to other units expected at times
• Preferred charting system experience with Meditech
• Block scheduling not guaranteed but shifts may be grouped when possible

Requirements

• Active VA or compact RN license required
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Previous surgical unit experience required
• Community hospital experience preferred
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, and peripheral line care
• Experience with chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, oxygen administration, and oral suctioning preferred
• Experience with colostomy/ileostomy and feeding tube care
• Experience with continuous bladder irrigation
• Experience administering heparin, insulin, and PCA medications
• Experience with isolation precautions/PPE and wound care/wound vac
• Experience in orthopedics, ortho trauma, and total joint replacement preferred
• Experience with peripheral nerve block catheters preferred
• Experience with post-angiogram and post-MI cardiac care preferred
• Experience with cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for a surgical overflow unit with a varied surgical population
• Must pass a respirator fit test and comply with facility grooming policy for proper fit, with exemptions requiring prior written approval from Employee Health Services
• Zero-tolerance drug policy, including no acceptance of medical marijuana cards
• Drug screening required during compliance and again on first day onsite
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be considered
• Candidates who previously worked a permanent position at the facility within the past 24 months are not eligible
• Holiday coverage expectations scale with the number of holidays falling within the assignment

• General RN orientation occurs every other Monday
