Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a night shift position requiring 2 years of specialty experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

• NICU unit that also covers Newborn Nursery
• Average daily census of 10
• Night shift, 4x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
• Unit staffs both 3x12 and 4x12 schedules
• Occasional floating to postpartum/peds
• Every other weekend required (2-4 shifts per 4-week schedule)
• No call-in required

Requirements

• Active RN license (Compact or LA) required in hand
• BLS, NRP, and CPI certifications required
• AHA certifications required
• 2 years of NICU specialty experience required
• Epic charting experience required
• Skills in IV therapy, UAC/UVC management, and starting/maintaining IVs required
• Experience with APGAR scoring, developmental care, thermoregulation, and neonatal abstinence syndrome
• Experience with blood glucose monitoring, phototherapy, and hyperbilirubinemia management
• Experience with feeding methods (bottle, breast, gavage) and breastfeeding support
• Experience with respiratory care including HFNC, oxygen delivery systems, and suctioning (ETT, NT)
• Knowledge of neonatal sepsis recognition and sepsis work-up
• Experience with neonatal dosage calculations
• Care experience with neonates across gestational ages, including <24-28 weeks and >34 weeks
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Up-to-date NURSYS report required

Additional Information

• Attend high-risk deliveries and conduct car seat testing
• Handle newborn diagnoses for both NICU and Well Baby populations
• May be assigned to an Emergency Team requiring extended facility presence during emergency events
• Must be willing to work 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Orientation held 5 days a week
• Two Manager/Supervisor references required prior to start (Charge RN references not accepted)
• Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility; local candidates not accepted

• Previous Ochsner Health permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a 1-year separation before returning as a traveler
