Description

American Traveler is hiring a night shift RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit requiring MS/Tele floating experience and an active SC or compact RN license.

Details

• 30-bed non-cardiac monitor Medical/Surgical unit specializing in Vascular and Urology patients
• Unit also receives overflow from General Surgery, Women's Specialty, and Medicine
• Patients transfer in from PACU, ICU, and ED with an average length of stay of 1-2 days
• Nurse to patient ratio of 1:5 on both day and night shifts, supported by three support staff per shift
• Care includes dressing changes, wound vac management, and drain care for non-monitored med-surg patients
• Night shift schedule of 3x12-hour shifts from 19:00-07:30
• Weekend coverage required, typically every other weekend but may vary based on need
• Floating required to other units and campuses based on census needs, within demonstrated competencies
• Must be MS/Tele experienced for floating purposes

Requirements

• Active SC or compact RN license required
• Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Minimum 1 year of recent experience in a Med/Surg or Med/Surg Tele unit required
• First-time travelers require 3 years of specialty experience
• Minimum 1 year of EPIC EMR experience required
• Must pass an EKG exam as part of prestart modules
• Experience with Urology and Vascular patient populations required
• Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, feeding tube care, and PCA/Heparin protocol management
• Experience with isolation precautions, PPE, and wound/wound vac care required
• Experience with central line, peripheral line, and PICC line management preferred
• Experience with blood product administration and port access/management preferred
• Experience with nasal cannula and oxygen tank management preferred
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care preferred
• Continuous bladder irrigation experience preferred
• Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct med-surg nursing care to 5-6 patients per shift including wound care and drain management
• Work under a care team model with support staff assisting under RN direction
• Complete pre-assignment testing and required modules within 48 hours of receiving login credentials
• Attend orientation held every Monday along with annual compliance training
• First-time travelers may be considered with 3+ years of specialty experience
• Travelers must reside more than 100 miles from any Prisma Health facility to be eligible for full travel assignment, with reduced eligibility between 90-99.9 miles
• Night shift travelers in this specialty must live 50+ miles from the contracted campus to be eligible, with reduced eligibility between 50-99.9 miles and ineligibility under 50 miles
• Travelers cannot begin a 4th consecutive contract at this health system and must convert to employee status or take a six-month separation before returning as a traveler
