Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Labor & Delivery RN with an active IL RN license and at least 2 years of L&D experience for a busy LDRP and Nursery unit.

Details

• Work in the Labor and Delivery, Antepartum, and Nursery unit (LDRP)
• Patient population includes labor and delivery, antepartum, gynecology patients, gestational HTN, DM, and multi-birth cases
• Unit performs circumcisions, hearing screens, newborn screens, general admissions, C-sections, and inductions of labor
• Day shift schedule, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, with 3x12 or 4x12 hour shifts accepted
• Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:3
• Unit staffs 1 charge nurse, 6-7 nurses, and 1 scrub nurse per shift, adjusted based on census
• Average of 140 deliveries per month, with expected increase into the 160s
• Physicians are in-house part-time with on-call coverage during remaining hours
• No call requirements
• Must work 1 Friday, 1 Saturday, and 1 Sunday shift every 4-week schedule (non-consecutive allowed)

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery experience required
• BLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN (Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced), STABLE, and Fetal Heart Monitoring certifications preferred
• Epic charting experience preferred
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and administration of blood and blood products required
• Experience starting and maintaining IVs and use of infusion pumps/drips required
• Level 2 Special Care Nursery experience preferred
• Experience circulating, scrubbing, and triaging preferred
• Previous charge experience preferred
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide comprehensive care across antepartum, labor and delivery, postpartum, and newborn stages
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and neonatal resuscitation as needed
• Support newborn care including APGAR scoring, cord care, circumcision assistance, and discharge teaching
• Manage postpartum care including fundus/lochia/perineum care, breastfeeding support, and care for complications such as postpartum hemorrhage or hypertension
• Administer medications such as Magnesium Sulfate and Pitocin
• Perform fetal monitoring including external and internal EFM and recognition of abnormal fetal heart rate patterns
• Candidates residing within 70 miles of the facility are considered local and are not accepted
• Travelers must shave to ensure proper fit for mask fit testing; medical or religious exemptions are not accepted
• Clinicians cannot work more than 1 year as a traveler at this facility without taking a 6-month break before returning
