Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a multi-acuity ICU/PCU unit, requiring at least 2 years of ICU experience and an active AZ or compact RN license.

Details

• Acute care hospital setting on a combined-acuity Multi Care Unit (ICU/PCU/MST) with 10 beds
• Patient ratios vary by acuity: ICU 1:2, PCU 1:4, MST 1:5-6 (1:3 if no nurse aide available)
• Common diagnoses include sepsis, suicide attempt, drug/alcohol withdrawal, COPD, respiratory arrest, pneumonia, COVID, and DKA; PCU patients require non-titratable infusions
• RNs titrate drips including sedation, vasopressors, and insulin
• Uses Cerner EMR
• Telemetry monitoring in place with Remote Monitor Techs for PCU/MST patients; RNs perform 12-lead EKGs and monitor bedside cardiac monitors for ICU patients
• RT support available for vents, BiPap, and CPAP
• Night shift schedule, 12-hour shifts (1900-0730)
• Every other weekend required (Fri/Sat for nights)
• Holiday rotation required
• Low census may require standby rotation
• Floating required to EC MST & Pediatric unit and to West Campus ICU/PCU (with two-hour notice); traveler is first to float

Requirements

• Active AZ or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required (1 year ICU plus 1 year PCU/Med-Surg considered for candidates from larger facilities with strong skills)
• Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within two attempts prior to signing contract
• Must pass a sterile technique test for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes on first day of orientation
• Driver's license copy required for consideration
• Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care across ICU, PCU, and MST acuities within a combined unit without floating between units for in-unit shifts
• Charge RN oversees 50 inpatient beds spanning MST, Peds, and the Acuity Adaptable MCU unit
• Nurse aides typically care for 10-15 patients; RNs provide primary care to PCU and MST patients when no aide is available
• Any scrub color accepted except camouflage
• Must attend hospital and unit-specific orientation
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Candidates may not have worked full time, part time, or PRN at any CommonSpirit-associated facility (including CHI and Dignity) within the past year
• Candidates may not have worked in a permanent role at another CommonSpirit facility within the last 12 months
• Failing the dysrhythmia or sterile technique exam twice results in a 6-month do-not-use status across CommonSpirit AZ and Sacramento facilities
