Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring an active IL RN license and ICU experience.

Details

• ICU/Acute Care unit in an acute care hospital setting
• 7-bed ICU with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio
• Cares for patients with COPD, AFIB, post-op cases (e.g., colon resections), diabetes, COVID-19, occasional alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, and GI bleeds
• Manages titrated drips including Cardizem, Levophed, and Insulin
• Uses Cerner EMR and Nihon Kohden cardiac monitors
• 12-hour night shifts (7 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Schedules posted 6 weeks at a time with possible block scheduling
• Weekend requirement of every third weekend for night shifts
• Infrequent floating to Med-Surg/Acute Care (1:4 ratio) possible
• No dedicated monitor techs; RNs read their own telemetry strips
• 24/7 in-house Respiratory Therapy support with ventilators, BiPAP, and Vapotherm

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification (AHA) required, obtainable on-site if needed
• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required
• ICU experience strongly preferred
• Proficiency managing a range of ICU patient conditions, including titrating critical drips
• BSN not required for this position

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care in a high-acuity ICU setting with total patient care responsibilities
• Hospitalist and nurse practitioner support available daily, with on-call coverage at night
• ER or anesthesia teams assist with emergent procedures such as intubations
• Charge nurse may take patient assignments and house supervisor is present during off shifts and weekends
• Scrub requirement: pewter-colored scrub top or jacket, black pants, black shoes, and black socks
• 3-shift unit-specific orientation process including HR, infection control, and preceptor-guided floor training
• Holiday coverage is negotiable, though willingness to work holidays is appreciated
• Call/standby not required but appreciated if available to pick up shifts
