Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Neuro Med-Surg Acute unit requiring Level 1 trauma and heparin drip experience, with prior travel nursing experience required.

Details

• Acute care Neuro Med-Surg unit with 54 beds (2 semi-private)
• Patient population includes stroke, spine surgery, seizure, brain tumor, head injury, general neuroscience cases, and some medical overflow
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
• Patient care techs support the unit at ratios of 1:9-10 days/evenings and 1:10-12 nights
• Charge nurse and house supervisor coverage 24/7, with charge nurse only taking an assignment if short-staffed
• House-wide telemetry monitoring (Phillips monitors) means nurses are not required to read their own strips
• RNs titrate drips including heparin based on PTT
• High flow oxygen used rarely for stable COVID patients
• 12-hour night shifts
• Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and every other holiday required
• No call or standby requirements
• Floats within the general unit rotation; floating outside the unit limited to competent skills with support from a trained nurse
• Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required
• BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Level 1 trauma experience required
• Prior experience in a dedicated neuro unit required
• Previous travel nursing experience required; first-time travelers will not be considered
• Heparin drip titration experience required
• EPIC EMR experience preferred

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care for neuroscience and related medical overflow patients, including titrating drips and monitoring high-acuity conditions
• No scrub color requirement, but tattoos must be covered while on duty and only ear piercings are allowed
• Unit orientation includes 2 days with an educator covering computer systems and unit specifics, plus 1 day of patient care with a preceptor
• Requested time off must be submitted for consideration
• COVID vaccination is not required for this position
• Local candidates within 50 miles are eligible but receive a reduced local bill rate rather than the standard travel rate
