Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN with spine surgery experience for a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 1+ years of experience and a MO or compact RN license.

Details

Medical Surgical unit specializing in elective spine surgery and some traumatic spine cases from the emergency department
Cares for cervical to sacrum spine procedures, including lumbar drain management
Patient ratio of 1:3.5
Day shift schedule, 4x12 hours (7:00 AM-7:30 PM)
Can sign for 36 or 48 hours per week
Required to work every other weekend
No on-call requirements
Floating required between the two spine units
Uses Epic charting system

Requirements

Active MO or compact RN license required (must match permanent residence for compact)
Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
CPI certification preferred
Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
Experience in a Level I Trauma teaching hospital preferred
Prior charge nurse experience preferred
Experience with lumbar drains, mobility assistance (3x daily), and pain management
Hoyer lift experience required
Skills in IV therapy, phlebotomy, central line and PICC line management, and blood product administration
Experience with chest tubes, oxygen administration, and oral suctioning
Experience with wound care/wound vac and isolation precautions/PPE
Knowledge of cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response/code team protocols

Additional Information

Provide nursing care for patients undergoing spine surgery and related procedures, including pain management and mobility support
Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; no local candidates accepted
First-time travelers are welcome to apply
Limited to 2 RTO requests per 13-week contract, with no RTO allowed during the first week of the assignment
Standard travelers may work up to 18 months, followed by a required 3-month break in service
Permanent BJC or Saint Luke's employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Navy scrub color required
Facial hair must allow for proper respirator fit testing; shaving may be required
