Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg Float Pool RN for a 13-week acute care assignment requiring Med/Surg background and the ability to float across inpatient units.

Details

• Float pool position covering Med/Surg, Step-down, and ICU inpatient units based on competency
• Unit ratios vary: Med/Surg 1:6, Step-down 1:4/5, ICU 1:2/3
• Patient population includes cardiac, orthopedic, neuro, surgical, and medical cases depending on the assigned unit
• Uses EPIC EMR
• 12-hour day and night shifts available (7am-7:30pm or 7pm-7:30am)
• Every other weekend required
• Holiday coverage required if needed
• No on-call requirement, though standby may be required during low census periods
• Telemetry monitoring available with dedicated monitor techs
• Daily unit assignments obtained by calling the staffing office
• Drip titration required in step-down areas, including Heparin, Cardizem, nitro, insulin, and other common titratable medications
• Respiratory equipment such as CPAP and BiPAP used across units, with ventilators in ICU and chronic trach vents in step-down
• Nurse aides/PCTs present on units to support care team
• Charge nurse coverage available day shift Monday-Friday, with house supervisor support 24/7

Requirements

• Active WV or Compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required
• Minimum 2 years of experience required
• Med/Surg background required, Step-down experience preferred
• EPIC EMR experience preferred
• Driver's license with current permanent address required for consideration

Additional Information

• Provide nursing care across multiple inpatient units based on competency and daily staffing needs
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 3-4 shifts
• Royal blue scrub color required
• 9 current float pool nurses supported by a robust PCT float pool
• Radius requirement of 50 miles for most WVU facilities and 100 miles for Princeton Community Hospital; local candidates within these radii are not eligible as travelers
• Previous WVU Medicine travelers must complete a 2-year break before reapplying
• Travelers may not work within WVU Medicine for longer than one year cumulatively before taking a required 2-year break
• Former permanent staff at Princeton Community, Potomac Valley, and Garrett Regional are not eligible to return as travelers
• All candidates interview directly with the unit manager
