Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Operating Room position requiring 2-3 years of OR specialty experience along with prior travel assignment experience.

Details

• Acute care Operating Room setting with 9 ORs, 1 procedure room, and 1 hybrid room
• Averages 35-45 cases per day across all surgical specialties except CVOR and L&D C-sections
• Common cases include general, ENT, eye, ortho, robotics (Davinci and Rosa), neuro spine, vascular, trauma, pediatric, and emergent procedures
• Uses Epic EMR
• Varied shift lengths including 8s, 10s, and 12s with primarily day and evening start times (7a-3:30p, 7a-5:30p, 9a-5p, 11a-7p, 3p-11p, 11p-11p)
• Weeknight on-call required 7p-7a on a rotating basis
• One 24-hour weekend on-call shift per month (7a-7p)
• Holiday call rotation required as needed
• On-call response time of 30 minutes; must remain onsite if greater than 30 minutes away
• Floating to outpatient surgery required as needed
• No self-scheduling for travelers, though block scheduling may be accommodated
• Charge nurse/house supervisor coverage from 7a-7p; night shift may require solo RN coverage with 2 OR techs

Requirements

• Active WV or compact RN license required
• BLS and ACLS certification (AHA) required; PALS preferred
• 2-3 years of OR specialty experience required
• 2-3 previous travel assignments required
• Orthopedic surgery experience required
• Experience passing arms in and out for robotic cases required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Experience across all surgical specialties required for evening and night shift assignments
• Scrubbing ability is a plus but not required

Additional Information

• OR staff is composed almost entirely of travelers
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 3 shifts over 1 week
• Scrubs are provided for RNs and OR techs
• OR techs are responsible for turning over rooms; no aides or housekeeping support available
• Travelers rotate through charge responsibilities as needed
• Facility support and teaching of a service line may be requested for candidates with experience limited to one service line
• Must reside outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
• Former WVU Medicine travelers must have a 2-year break before reapplying, with a 1-year cumulative work limit within the WVU system
