Description
We’re hiring an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist for a hospital in Pittsburgh, PA where you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders.
Minimum Requirements:
- Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program.
- Current RRT credential and state license in good standing with the State License Board for Pennsylvania.
- Minimum one year experience as an RRT in an acute care hospital setting. (Client requires hospital acute care experience.)
- BLS certification required. ACLS certification preferred.
- Experience operating and monitoring mechanical ventilators, performing invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and performing arterial puncture and blood gas analysis.
- Experience with suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal), tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube insertion/removal, and use of video laryngoscope systems.
- Ability to perform 12-lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, pulmonary function testing (NIF, VC), oximetry and capnography monitoring.
- Ability to assist with bronchoscopy, chest tube management, and PleurX or similar drainage devices.
- Demonstrated competency in documentation, charge capture, and communication with multidisciplinary teams including pulmonary and attending physicians.
- Ability to perform CPR according to BLS and ACLS guidelines.
- Preferred: experience in hospitals with moderate complexity labs and familiarity with specimen handling and quality control processes.

Standard Job Description
Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients, and provides necessary education upon discharge to home. Conducts physician-prescribed treatments, operates invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation and oxygenation. Performs chest physiotherapy and suctioning by various methods. Performs oximetry and capnography monitoring, routine review of chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation, 12-lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition. Performs pulmonary function studies, assists with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, chest tube placement, and manages PleurX drainage where applicable. Performs tracheostomy care, arterial puncture and interpretation of gas results, and maintains ventilatory equipment including setup and self-test. Assists with preventative maintenance and repair of equipment. Records treatment details and patient responses, communicates with physicians regarding therapy effectiveness, reports necessary information during shift handoffs, and maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging. Performs other duties as assigned.
