Description

We’re hiring an experienced Respiratory Therapist for a local hospital in Wilmington, DE where you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program.
  • Current Delaware state license in good standing with the State License Board or compact-eligible equivalent.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • One year experience as an RRT in a hospital setting or equivalent acute care environment; experience with mechanical ventilators and arterial blood gas sampling preferred.
  • Current BLS certification required. ACLS certification preferred.
  • Experience with invasive and non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy care, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy and chest tube management according to facility policy.

Standard Job Description:

Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provides necessary education upon discharge.

Performs physician-prescribed treatments of a routine nature operating various ventilatory equipment, both invasive and non-invasive, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation and oxygenation. Performs chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, and routine review of chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation.

Performs 12-Lead EKGs and basic arrhythmia recognition. Conducts pulmonary function studies (e.g., NIF, VC) and assists with respiratory procedures per policy, including bronchoscopy support, percutaneous tracheostomy care, and chest tube-related care. Performs arterial puncture and interprets results to determine ventilatory efficiency. Follows laboratory testing policies where applicable and performs CPR per BLS/ACLS guidelines.

Performs insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope. Sets up, self-tests, operates, maintains and monitors mechanical ventilators. Assists with equipment preventative maintenance and documents treatments, patient responses, and communications with physicians. Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging and performs other duties as assigned.
