Description

We’re hiring an experienced Respiratory Therapist for a local hospital where you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from an accredited Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program.
  • Current Alabama state respiratory therapist license in good standing.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred. Candidate with Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) will be considered with at least 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of recent clinical experience for travelers. Facility will not accept travelers with only 1 year of experience.
  • BLS required. ACLS and PALS preferred. NRP required for NICU positions.
  • Experience with adult general and critical care. NICU RT candidates must have Level III NICU experience within the past 12 months for NICU roles.
  • Hands-on experience with ventilators and airway management, including PB 840, PB 980, Drager VN500, LTV, and high-flow devices such as Airvo preferred.
  • Familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record required.
  • Experience with Omnicell medication dispensing systems and Spacelabs monitoring systems preferred.
  • Ground transport experience, nitric oxide administration, and neonatal transport experience preferred for NICU RT roles.


Assignment Details

  • Facility type: Hospital.
  • Shift name: Days.
  • Shift details: Days 0700-1900 (3x12 schedule).
  • Duration: 13-week travel assignment.
  • Standard hours per week: 36.
  • Patient types: All through hospital. NICU assignments available for NICU-qualified RTs.
  • Floating: May be required to float to like patient units. NICU therapists may also provide care to adult patients as needed.
  • Orientation: New or returning travelers (absent 1+ years) receive 24 hours classroom and 24 hours unit orientation.
  • Scheduling specifics: Weekend rotation every other weekend. Voluntary on-call. Holiday coverage: one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy.

Standard Job Description

As a Respiratory Therapist you will evaluate respiratory status, implement respiratory care plans, perform ventilator management, provide patient and family education, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to optimize respiratory function. You will deliver care across acuity levels and document care in the Cerner EMR. Work will include assessment, medication administration per protocol, airway management, mechanical ventilation, and emergency respiratory interventions.


Additional Notes

Travel status. Travelers must meet facility credentialing and orientation requirements. Manager preference is for RRT credentials. Certifications and clinical experience requirements vary by assignment (adult vs NICU). Facility uses Cerner, Omnicell, Spacelabs, and multiple ventilator platforms.
