Travel RN - PCU (Nights) | Charlotte, NC

Location: 2001 Vail Ave, Charlotte, NC 28207
Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
Shift: 12-hour nights, 7p-7a
Hours: 36 per week (3 x 12)
Contract: 13 weeks

End Date: Jan 30, 2027

About the Facility

Facility is a 207-bed hospital. It has no trauma designation and is not a teaching hospital. It is a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center.

The unit has 10 Med/Surg beds and 10 progressive care beds. The unit culture is built on teamwork.

The Role

You'll care for PCU and Med/Surg patients. Common diagnoses include:

  • Heart failure

  • Chest pain

  • Rule-out stroke

  • Sepsis

  • Renal failure

  • Respiratory failure

  • DKA

  • Interventional patients with titratable drips

Details:

  • Ratio: Med/Surg 1:5-6, PCU 1:3-4

  • CNA ratio varies

  • Support: CNA, receptionist/HUC, charge nurse (may or may not have patients), phlebotomy for peripheral draws, IV/VAT team, resource nurse as staffing allows, 24/7 respiratory therapy, 24/7 hospitalist, and in-house intensivist coverage

  • EMR: Epic

  • Equipment: Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell, Philips monitors

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or compact)

  • Minimum 18 months of recent PCU experience

  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS

  • Solid general PCU skill set, including:

    • Stroke care

    • Cardiac rhythm interpretation

    • Trach care

    • PIV starts

    • Chest tube management

    • NGT placement

    • Drain and tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, Flexi-Seals, Foley insertion and management)

    • PCA pumps

  • Medication drip management, including cardiac drips, heparin, insulin, blood products and IV fluids

  • First-time travelers not preferred, but will be considered

  • Radius rule: your permanent address must be at least 50 miles from the unit

Schedule & Expectations

  • Weekend rotation: every other weekend

  • No on-call requirements

  • Holidays: travelers work 75% of holidays

  • Schedule cycle: 6 weeks

  • Time off: up to 6 days off can be approved, excluding holidays. Missed hours must be added to the end of the contract.

  • Orientation: facility NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

  • Scrub color: navy
