Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• 12-hour day shifts starting at 7:00 AM
• Three 12-hour shifts per week
• Every other weekend required, including both Saturday and Sunday
• Holiday rotation with core staff
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-6 on nights and 1:5-6 for LPNs, with virtual admission and discharge nurses available to assist
• Primary care nursing model is frequently used - must be comfortable with this model
• Must have at least 1 year of surgical experience with total joint experience required
• Must have EPIC experience - facility undergoing EPIC conversion in Q2 2026
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Common diagnoses and patient types include neuro cases (laminectomy, cervical fusion, LESI), belly surgery (ostomies, hernia repair), joint replacements (total hips/knees), fem pop bypass, dialysis catheter insertions, BKA/AKA, sepsis, and urgent OR cases
• Must be proficient with PICC lines, TPN/Lipids, PCA pumps, reversal drugs (Narcan), sepsis management, and narcotic usage
• Required to interpret telemetry strips independently; Draeger telemetry monitors used on unit
• Heparin drip titration required per protocol
• Respiratory therapy manages CPAP, Airvo, and BiPAP equipment on unit
• Float to like units only; if floated to higher acuity unit, will serve in a help-all capacity without a patient load
• Schedules are posted 6 weeks in advance; block scheduling is not guaranteed
• Scrub color required: black
• Orientation consists of one 12-hour shift on the hired shift and unit; first day is 12-14 hours to complete competencies, computer-based modules, and general orientation
• 4 hours of billable computer modules required at 7:00 AM the Friday prior to start; modules delivered Monday through Tuesday of the week prior to start and should be added to the first week's timesheet
• Cancellation policy: 3 shifts per 13-week or longer contract; 2 shifts per 12-week or shorter contract
• Charting system: EPIC

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center operating a 48-bed Med Surg/Telemetry inpatient surgical unit across two buildings on the third floor. The unit supports a fast-paced environment with a high volume of surgical admissions, seeing 8-12 surgery admissions per day alongside active patient discharges. The facility provides comprehensive support resources including telemetry monitor technicians, nurse aides, charge nurses, and respiratory therapy to assist the nursing staff in delivering quality patient care.
