Opportunity:
RN MS/Oncology - Surgical Oncology Unit
Job Details:
• Day shifts with occasional float to nights as needed (only a few night shifts per contract)
• Various days of the week scheduled
• Weekend coverage required per unit needs; approximately 12-14 weekend shifts per contract
• No on-call required
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:6; ratios may flex up based on staffing and unit needs - candidates must be comfortable with flexible staffing ratios
• Floating required within scope to meet facility needs; may float to sister facilities based on facility needs
• 2 years of acute care experience required
• Teaching hospital experience required; first-time travelers accepted with teaching hospital experience
• Trauma Level I experience required
• Epic charting system experience required
• Required certifications: AHA BLS; Colorado or Compact RN license required
• Oncology skills checklist required
• Scrub color: Navy
• Unit primarily cares for adult patients with a known cancer diagnosis recovering post-operatively from surgical interventions
• Specialty care focused on diagnoses and procedures related to the abdomen or pelvic area including Gynecologic Oncology, Urology Oncology, Colorectal, Pancreatic, Liver, and Stomach
• No chemotherapy or biotherapy is administered on this unit; chemo certification is not required
• Nursing care is directed toward helping patients achieve specific post-operative milestones for discharge
• Required clinical skills include: accessing/managing ports, blood and blood product administration, central line care and blood draw, chest tube care and management, colostomy/ileostomy management, Foley catheter insertion and management, IV push narcotic agents, PCA pump management, PICC line care, post-surgical care, tracheostomy care and management, wound care, neutropenic precautions, and sepsis management among others
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV Teams, Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, and more
• Maximum of 10 RTO days approved per 13-week contract
• RTO not allowed during the following blackout periods: June 28 – July 9, 2026; September 2 – September 12, 2026; October 25 – November 4, 2026; November 22 – December 2, 2026; December 20 – January 3, 2027
Facility:
This academic medical campus is a leading teaching hospital and Level I Trauma Center offering advanced specialty care across a wide range of disciplines. The facility supports a robust interdisciplinary care model with access to IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, social services, and rapid response teams. The Surgical Oncology unit is a 36-bed unit with a daily census of approximately 33 patients and incorporates new and innovative technology into everyday clinical workflows.
