Opportunity:
RN - MedSurg
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Weekend shifts required every other weekend, may be more frequent based on need
• Holiday coverage required as needed
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 based on acuity, supported by an acuity tool for real-time assignment balancing
• CNA support available at a 1:8-10 ratio
• Charge nurse on each shift without a patient assignment, with unit leadership coverage day and night including weekends
• Travelers may be asked to serve as charge nurse if experienced
• Care for patients across multiple specialties including bariatric surgery, urology, colorectal, vascular surgery, acute care surgery, gynecological surgery, plastic surgery/breast reconstruction, cystic fibrosis, and general medical patients
• Must be proficient with central lines, NG tube management, ostomies, drain management, and professional communication
• Experience with CBIs and foley management preferred
• Remote telemonitoring in use; RNs must be able to read telemetry strips
• RT equipment includes CPAP, high flow oxygen, and BiPAP occasionally
• Heparin drips administered at set rates; titration of drips not required
• Charting system: EPIC
• Floating to like units at sister hospitals is required; travelers are first to float
• No specific scrub color required; must be clean and professional
• 1 shift of unit-specific orientation following hospital orientation, plus 1 didactic day with unit educator
• Minimum 2 years of MedSurg experience required
• Required certification: BLS
• BSN not required
• Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility

This acute care facility operates a 35-bed multi-specialty MedSurg unit on Floor 6, serving as a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery among other specialties. The unit is well-supported with dedicated charge nurses, assistant nurse managers, and leadership coverage around the clock, including weekends. The facility is part of a local hospital network and emphasizes work-life balance for staff through thoughtful scheduling practices.
