Opportunity:
RN - MedSurg Post Surgical
Job Details:
• 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Every other weekend required as per facility needs, potentially more depending on department needs
• No specific holiday requirement; may rotate in with core staff
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
• CNA support available with ratios of 1:7 on days and 1:11 on nights
• Charge nurse available 24/7 and does not take a patient assignment
• House Supervisor and critical care outreach RN on site 24/7
• Care for post-surgical patients including general, urology, abdominal, amputations, trauma, ENT, and bariatric cases (travelers do not take bariatric patients)
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin; set rate drips include Amiodarone and Cardizem
• Remote telemetry monitored by a tele tech on a separate unit; nurses must have basic understanding of strip interpretation and lethal rhythms
• No ventilators on unit; CPAP used at night for maintenance
• Preferred skills include experience with chest tubes, central lines, heparin drips, NG tubes, JP drains, wound vacs, and dressing changes
• Travelers are first to float within skill set; may float to other med-surg units, ICU as a resource, ER for holds, or to various units as a sitter
• If not needed, provider may be placed on standby and called in at any time during the shift
• No block scheduling; travelers are utilized to fill gaps in the schedule and scheduling requests cannot be accommodated
• Charting system: EPIC
• Required certification: BLS
• BSN not required
• Professional scrubs in any color required; no tattoos visible above the shoulders, only nose studs permitted as facial piercings, and natural hair color required
• Unit orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts
• Hourly rounding, bedside report participation, and a positive attitude are of high importance

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering a wide range of surgical and post-surgical services across a 38-bed unit. The facility utilizes EPIC for charting and maintains robust support systems including 24/7 charge nurse coverage, house supervisors, and critical care outreach RNs. The organization is committed to high standards of patient care and emphasizes a collaborative, professional environment for both staff and travelers.
