Opportunity:
RN - ICU
Job Details:
• 12-hour night shifts in a 20-bed adult Surgical Intensive Care Unit (5D SICU)
• Patient ratio of 1:2; ratios may adjust to 1:3 when boarding general care, telemetry, or moderate care patients
• Every other weekend coverage required
• No on-call responsibilities
• Float to designated unit(s) in times of low census required
• Minimum 1 year of current ICU or ED RN experience required; 2 or more years of Adult Surgical ICU experience preferred
• First-time travelers accepted
• Epic charting system experience required
• Required certifications: ACLS and BLS; BSN and CCRN preferred
• Michigan RN license must be in-hand at time of submission (compact license not accepted)
• 2 supervisory/manager references required (charge RN references not accepted)
• Care for adult patients who have undergone major operations or are experiencing complications requiring extensive physiological monitoring
• Patient populations include peripheral vascular disease, cancer, hepatic, pancreatic or renal failure, cardiac and pulmonary disease, and multi-system failure
• Experience with swan ganz monitoring, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition, and fluid and electrolyte corrections
• Unit serves as a major referral center for adult ECMO and respiratory failure patients and receives adult liver transplants
• May receive overflow from Trauma, Neuro, Medicine, and Cardiac Intensive Care Units
• SICU charge nurses participate as adult Rapid Response Providers throughout the hospital
• Key skills include arterial line management, central line care, BiPAP/CPAP management, care of ventilated patients, blood product administration, IV insulin protocols, management of dysrhythmias, TPN/Lipids, and interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
• Interdisciplinary support available including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, radiology, and rapid response teams
