Opportunity:

RN - Stepdown/PCU

Job Details:

• 12-hour night shifts with weekends as scheduled
• Every other weekend requirement
• May be included in holiday rotation
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6 depending on acuity
• Must have a minimum of 2 years of Stepdown/PCU experience
• Must be comfortable with cardiac monitoring and cardiac drips
• Required to titrate drips including cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, and angiomax
• Common patient diagnoses include cardiac patients, post pneumonia, post cath lab, seizures, ETOH/CIWA protocols, and pacemakers
• Charge nurse present on each shift; day shift charge does not take a patient assignment unless necessary, night shift charge takes a lighter assignment
• Nurse aides and patient care techs available on unit for ADLs, vitals, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugars
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7 and assigned to unit; nurses expected to troubleshoot respiratory equipment including BiPAP, airvo, and trachs
• Monitor techs available 24/7; nurses expected to read and interpret telemetry, print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
• Travelers may be floated to any inpatient unit and are first to float
• Charting system: Cerner
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
• Scrub color: Navy Blue
• Orientation includes 2 days of general orientation and 1 day with a preceptor
• Must reside outside of a 50-mile radius; copy of unexpired driver's license required at submission
• Any licensing hits must be disclosed at time of submission

This acute care facility operates a 30-bed Stepdown/PCU unit providing specialized intermediate care for patients requiring close cardiac monitoring and complex medical management. The facility offers 24/7 support including respiratory therapy assigned directly to the unit, telemetry monitoring technicians, and nocturnist coverage available for the entire hospital overnight.
