Opportunity:
RN - ER
Job Details:
• Primarily night shifts with occasional mid-shifts during the week
• Work every 3rd weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) on night shift
• 3x12-hour shifts with available shift times: 6:00 AM-6:00 PM, 9:00 AM-9:00 PM, 11:00 AM-11:00 PM, and 6:00 PM-6:00 AM
• Shift mix includes 1:00 AM-11:00 PM, 1:00 PM-1:00 AM, and 6:00 PM-6:00 AM
• Every other observed holiday required (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's)
• No on-call or standby requirement
• No floating requirements
• Cancellation policy: 3 shifts per 13 weeks
• Self-scheduling used, though travelers schedule after core staff; schedules made 8+ weeks in advance
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:3 in main ER; 1:2 for ICU acuity patients
• Work in a Level 3 trauma, stroke, and STEMI certified emergency department with 11 beds and 1 trauma bay
• Travelers may be placed in trauma rooms and may perform triage
• Common diagnoses include chest pain, abdominal pain, DKA, sepsis, headaches, mental health, respiratory distress, trauma (including MVA and farming accidents), and some pediatric cases
• Common drips include nitro, levo, insulin, and cardizem
• Must be able to read and interpret telemetry independently using Philips monitors
• Charting system: EPIC (1 day of Epic training provided plus 1-2 shifts with a preceptor)
• Scrub color/dress code: Navy blue
• Minimum 1 year of ER experience required; rural or community hospital experience preferred
• BSN not required
• 45-mile radius rule applies
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS (AHA or ARC), CPI, ENPC, PALS, TNCC
Facility:
This acute care emergency department operates as a Level 3 trauma, stroke, and STEMI certified facility with a dedicated cath lab and the capability to work up neurological cases. The unit features an L-shaped layout with 11 beds plus a trauma bay, a lobby triage system using the ESI rating system, and overflow infusion rooms. The department sees an average of 50-55 patients per day and is supported around the clock by on-campus security, paramedics, CNAs, a ward clerk, and respiratory therapy available as needed. The close-knit team has a small-town feel with experienced long-tenured staff.
