Opportunity:
RN - MedSurg Post Surgical
Job Details:
• 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM
• Every other weekend required with potential for more depending on department needs
• No specific holiday requirement, may rotate with core staff
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-5 on both day and night shifts
• CNA support available with ratios of 1:7 on days and 1:11 on nights
• Charge nurse available 24/7 and does not take a patient assignment
• House supervisor and critical care outreach RN available 24/7
• Remote telemetry monitored by tele tech on a separate unit
• Basic understanding of strip interpretation and lethal rhythms required
• Care for post-surgical patients including general, urology, abdominal, amputation, trauma, ENT, and bariatric cases (excluding cardiac, ortho, or neuro)
• Experience preferred with chest tubes, central lines, heparin drips, NG tubes, JP drains, wound vacs, and dressing changes
• Required to titrate drips including heparin; set rate drips include Amiodarone and Cardizem
• No ventilators on unit; CPAP used at night for maintenance
• Travelers are first to float within skill set and may float to other med surg units, ICU as a resource, ER for holds, or to various units as a sitter
• Standby requirement if not needed, with potential to be called in at any time during the shift
• No block scheduling; travelers are utilized to fill holes in the schedule
• Charting system: EPIC
• Unit orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts
• Required certifications: BLS
• BSN not required
• Professional scrubs in any color required; no tattoos visible above the shoulders, only facial piercing allowed is a nose stud, and natural hair color required
• Hourly rounding, bedside report participation, and a positive attitude are of high importance
Facility:
This acute care facility operates as a Level 2 Trauma Center, providing comprehensive medical and surgical services to the surrounding community. The post-surgical unit consists of 38 beds and supports a wide range of surgical specialties including general surgery, urology, abdominal, ENT, and trauma care. The facility utilizes EPIC for charting and maintains robust support staff including charge nurses, house supervisors, and critical care outreach RNs available around the clock.
