Opportunity:
RN - Med Surg Neuro
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour night shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• At least every other weekend required, with additional weekend shifts possible based on unit needs and census
• 2-3 holidays required from Thanksgiving through New Year's
• 2 days of unit/department specific orientation provided
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on a 25-bed Med Surg Neuro unit
• Care for patients with diagnoses including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbation, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• Required to titrate drips including Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine; PCA pumps also used
• Tele techs will interpret monitor strips; RNs should maintain some tele awareness
• Nurse aides and patient care techs available at a 1:10-20 ratio
• Charge nurse present on each shift and carries an assignment
• Floating may be required to other medical surgical areas or units with MedSurg patients
• Charting system: EPIC
• Scrub color: Navy Blue for RNs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
• BSN not required
• Travel experience preferred but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
• No license or background hits accepted
• Must pass an open book skills exam with a score of 90% or higher during orientation

This acute care facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center offering comprehensive medical and surgical services across multiple specialized units. The Med Surg Neuro department operates with a strong focus on hourly rounding, patient responsiveness, and compassionate care for a diverse patient population including those who speak Spanish, Karen, and Burmese. The unit is equipped with mechanical lifts in every other room and maintains a high standard of patient-centered care with a collaborative team environment.
