Opportunity:
RN - Neuro ICU
Job Details:
• 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• 4 total weekend shifts required per 4 weeks
• Holidays based on unit coverage and work into core staff rotation
• Patient ratio of 1:2 in Neuro ICU; may float to MS/Tele floors at a 1:4 ratio
• First to float; possible float to ICU, MS/Tele, Westgate, or AZ General Laveen
• May be placed on standby for a scheduled shift
• Hospital can cancel up to 4 shifts per 13-week assignment or 3 shifts for assignments less than 13 weeks
• 2 years of ICU experience required in a large facility (450+ beds)
• Level 1 Trauma experience required
• EVD experience required
• Candidates with a minimum of 18 months of Neuro ICU experience will be considered
• Strong neuro assessment skills and ICP monitoring experience required
• Must pass DYS exam prior to accepting the position (2 attempts allowed)
• Pass/fail exam on Day 1 of orientation; study guide provided
• All RNs required to complete SIMs Lab for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
• SIMs Lab is pass/fail; maintaining sterile field is critical to passing
• Additional orientation includes lifts, restraints, and wound care (educational)
• 2 orientation shifts on the floor
• Common diagnoses include craniotomies, brain tumor removal and ablations, brain biopsies, complicated spine surgeries, and scoliosis repair
• EMR system: Cerner
• Phillips monitors used for telemetry
• Ventilator experience required
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy available 24/7
• Charge nurse present and does not take patients
• Scrub color: Steel Grey for Neuro floors
• Travel teams must have their own vehicles
• Must have natural hair color and no facial piercings
• Men must be clean shaven for fit test
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS

This facility is home to the world's largest neurological disease treatment and research institution, consistently ranked as one of the best neurosurgical training centers in the United States. The 32-bed Neuro ICU operates with 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy support, and utilizes Cerner as its electronic medical records system. The facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center providing comprehensive critical care services for a wide range of complex neurological conditions and surgical cases.
