Opportunity:
RN - MICU
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Minimum of 2 weekends per 4-week schedule required, covering both Saturday and Sunday for day and night shifts
• May be asked to participate in holiday rotation
• No call or standby requirement
• Travelers are first to float, with floating only to stepdown unit at a 1:3-4 ratio
• Unit orientation consists of 2 days of classroom training and 1 day with a preceptor
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:1-2, with potential for 1:3 when short staffed
• Must have prior MICU experience
• Must be able to titrate all drips including pressors, sedation, paralytics, antiarrhythmics, and insulin
• Must be able to independently read and interpret telemetry strips as there are no tele techs on the unit
• Common diagnoses include cardiac arrest, sepsis, neurosurgical cases, DKA, induced hypothermia, GI bleed, and angioedema (no trauma)
• Work alongside PCTs (3 on day shift, 2 on night shift) and respiratory therapists available 24/7
• RT equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, vents, and trachs; nurses are responsible for administering breathing treatments
• Fellows and residents are in house 24/7; attendings are not on-site 24/7
• Charting system: Allscripts
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS; CCRN preferred
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
• Flexible scheduling required as block scheduling is not guaranteed; excessive call-ins may lead to termination

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering comprehensive critical care services within a 26-bed Medical Intensive Care Unit. The unit is supported by a dedicated charge nurse who manages codes and rapid response teams without a patient assignment, along with 24/7 respiratory therapy coverage and centralized telemetry monitoring. The facility maintains a collaborative care environment with fellows and residents available around the clock to support patient care needs.
