Opportunity:
RN - MedSurg Float Pool
Job Details:
• Work 12-hour night shifts with every other weekend required
• Float pool assignment covering multiple Med-Surg units including General Medicine, Cardiology, Post-Surgical, Ortho/Neuro, and ED boarding
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are typically 1:4 on day shift and 1:5 on nights, with ED boarding ratios of 1:4 ideally
• CNA support available with ratios of 1:5 to 1:8
• Charge nurses available on units
• Telemetry monitored centrally by tele techs; RNs are not required to read their own strips but are encouraged to possess this skill
• Common patient diagnoses include general medicine, ortho/neuro, post-surgical, heart center, inpatient rehab, behavioral health (modified assignment), and medical oncology (chemo hanging not required)
• Competence required with chest tubes, central lines, and heparin drips
• Common drips include titratable Heparin and set-rate Amiodarone and Cardizem
• CPAP and home CPAP use permitted on Med-Surg floors; BiPAP use on Med-Surg floors is rare
• RNs call into the staffing office each shift for their unit assignment; no block scheduling and no scheduling requests accommodated
• Will be expected to work some holidays, including 2 of 3 winter holidays
• If not needed, RN may be placed on standby and called in at any time during the shift
• 2 years of Med-Surg experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience will be considered
• Epic experience preferred
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS
• Charting system: Epic
• Scrubs required; any color acceptable; no tattoos visible above the shoulders; only facial piercing allowed is a nose stud
• Unit orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
• 50-mile local radius restriction applies

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering a wide range of inpatient services across multiple Med-Surg units. The facility supports a robust float pool encompassing general medicine, cardiology, post-surgical, orthopedic, neurological, and other specialty units. The organization is committed to high-quality patient care with centralized telemetry monitoring, dedicated charge nurses, and strong ancillary support staff.
