Opportunity:

RN - SICU

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts, either 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required, with more availability welcomed
• Every other holiday required, with more availability welcomed
• 16-bed SICU unit with 2 additional procedural beds
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:2 standard, 1:1 for higher acuity patients (CRRT, immediate post-op hearts, MTP, OPO), 1:3 for med-surg/floor status patients
• Common patient populations include cardiovascular surgery (CABG, AVR, MVR, AAA), traumas (Level 2 Trauma Center), NSTEMI/STEMI, vascular surgery, neurosurgery, general surgery, ortho surgery, and ENT surgery
• Must have experience with high acuity patient populations
• All nurses care for POD 1 heart patients; immediate post-op heart patients cared for 1:1 by specifically trained nurses
• Required to titrate drips including epinephrine, norepinephrine, propofol, precedex, vasopressin, dobutamine, heparin, insulin, dopamine, neo, and milrinone
• CRRT, IABP, Impella, and ECMO experience not required but preferred
• RNs responsible for monitoring their own patient telemetry and documenting rhythm strips using GE monitors
• Respiratory therapy staff and intensivist available in-house 24/7
• RT equipment includes ventilators, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and more
• Charge nurse present on every shift; Nursing House Supervisor available 24/7
• Nurse aide available on day shift for entire unit; not typical on night shifts
• If not needed in SICU, may float to MICU or serve as patient observer within hospital
• No specific scrub color required; clean and professional attire expected
• Charting system: Cerner
• One day of system onboarding and CBT completion required, followed by two orientation shifts on the unit
• Must complete skills checklist
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Required certifications: ACLS (AHA), BLS (AHA), NIHSS
• Preferred certifications: TNCC

This acute care facility serves as a tertiary care center offering comprehensive surgical and critical care services. The facility operates as a Level 2 Trauma Center and provides 24/7 intensivist and respiratory therapy coverage, supporting a wide range of complex patient needs. The SICU supports advanced cardiovascular, neurological, and surgical cases, with a strong emphasis on high-acuity patient care and specialized nursing practices.
