Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg Neuro

Job Details:

• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM or 6:30 PM to 7:00 AM
• At least every other weekend required with additional weekend shifts possible based on unit needs and census
• 2-3 holidays required from Thanksgiving through New Year's
• 2 days of unit-specific orientation provided
• Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6 on a 25-bed Med Surg Neuro unit
• Nurse aide and patient care tech support available at a 1:10-20 ratio
• Telemetry techs will interpret strips; RNs should maintain some telemetry awareness
• Care for med/surg tele patients including strokes, stable neurological deficits, post-neurosurgery procedures, joint replacements, fractures, colon resections, COPD exacerbations, prostatectomy, cellulitis, sepsis, ortho trauma, GI bleeds, pneumonia, and failure to thrive
• Required to titrate Heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine drips; manage PCA pumps
• Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
• Floating may be required to other medical surgical areas or units with med/surg patients
• Charting system: EPIC
• Scrub color: Navy Blue for RNs
• Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA) and NIHSS
• BSN not required
• Travel experience preferred but strong candidates without travel experience will be considered
• No license or background hits accepted
• Valid driver's license required at submittal

This acute care facility is a Level 1 Trauma Center offering a wide range of specialized medical and surgical services. The Med Surg Neuro unit on the 4th Floor North is a 25-bed unit with a strong focus on hourly rounding, patient responsiveness, and compassionate care. The facility serves a diverse patient population, including patients from various cultural backgrounds, and is equipped with mechanical lifts in every other room to support staff and patient safety.
