Opportunity:

RN - Trauma & General Surgery Inpatient Unit

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Weekend nights schedule: Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Saturday, Sunday, Monday
• Every other weekend or 2 weekends per 4-week schedule required
• Holiday requirement: will work into the permanent staff holiday schedule as needed
• Care for both floor and step-down patients
• Floor patient ratio of 1:6 and step-down patient ratio of 1:3
• Treat complex patient conditions including multi-trauma, TBI, fractures, general surgery (cholecystectomies, ostomies), and bariatric surgery patients
• Perform complex wound care with a variety of drains and devices
• Manage traumatic injuries including chest-wall injuries requiring chest tubes and respiratory support
• Care for patients with traumatic brain injuries and complex spinal cord injuries
• Titrate drips including Heparin and PCAs on the floor; Insulin, Cardizem, and similar non-pressors on step-down
• Must be able to read and validate cardiac monitor strips (monitor techs available to run and monitor)
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7; stable/chronic vents only
• Free charge nurse available 24/7 with house supervisor support
• Clinical Associates (nurse aides) available when fully staffed at a ratio of 4 per unit
• Floating to like units (floor/step-down) is required
• Charting system: EPIC - Epic experience is required
• Level 1 trauma experience is required
• 1:6 ratio experience is required
• Scrub color: Royal Blue
• Required certifications: BLS
• Cancellation policy: 2 shifts per 13-week contract
• Acute care setting

Facility:

This facility is home to a high-impact, fast-paced trauma and general surgery inpatient unit that features both step-down and floor level care, allowing nurses to practice at the top of their scope and abilities. The unit is a nationally recognized Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center and operates with 30 total beds, including 12 floor and 18 step-down beds. The facility supports a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to care, working alongside care management, surgical and medical services, rehabilitation services, and perioperative services, with 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor coverage.
