Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend and holiday required
• No on-call or standby requirements
• Block scheduling in place - no self-scheduling
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: Days 1:4-5, Nights 1:5-6
• Float required to other adult medical/surgical nursing units
• Charting system: Cerner
• 29-bed unit with telemetry techs monitoring patients 24/7 - RNs not required to read strips
• Charge nurse takes an assignment on all shifts with a house supervisor present on all shifts
• Nursing assistants on unit - during night hours (7:00 PM to 7:00 AM) RNs carry additional responsibility for vital signs and ADLs
• Common patient diagnoses include ortho trauma (fractures, joint replacements), vascular (fem-pop bypass, carotid endarterectomy, heparin drips, wound dressing changes), urology (TURP, TURBT, continuous bladder irrigation), neuro-spine (laminectomy, fusion, back pain), OBGYN oncology, and acute medical admissions
• RNs required to titrate drips following a prescribed nomogram - common drips include heparin, nitroglycerin, bivalirudin, Cardizem, and insulin
• Equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP, and high flow oxygen therapy - no ventilators; respiratory therapy support is present
• Scrubs: any color, clean and professional
• Orientation: 1 day computer training followed by 1-2 days of precepted floor orientation
• BSN not required
• 1-2 years of acute care nursing experience required
• Required certification: BLS (AHA)
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility

Facility:

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering a wide range of medical and surgical services. The 29-bed medical-surgical unit supports a diverse patient population spanning orthopedic trauma, vascular surgery, urology, neuro-spine, and oncology. The facility maintains around-the-clock telemetry monitoring, respiratory therapy support, and house supervisor coverage to ensure high-quality patient care across all shifts.
