Opportunity:

RN - Med Tele

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour night shifts from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday requirements: 2 out of 3 holidays in winter, every other holiday during other times
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Unit contains 27 beds with nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days/evenings and 1:6 on nights (1:7 possible if working short)
• Nurse aide support available with ratios of 1:7-9 on days/evenings and up to 1:14 overnight
• Centralized tele techs monitor and read strips - nurses are not required to read their own strips but should be tele aware
• Charge nurse and house supervisor present on all shifts - travelers may be asked to step into charge role, especially on nights
• Respiratory therapy available in-house 24/7 overseeing multiple units
• Common diagnoses include oncology/hematology, general medical, GI bleed, PE/DVT, sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia, failure to thrive, and weakness
• Must have acute care experience and comfort with complex patients
• Must have experience with drips and be comfortable titrating drips as needed
• Common drips include insulin, heparin, cardizem, nitro, amiodarone, and octreotide; blood transfusion management required
• No oncology or chemotherapy knowledge required
• Travel pairs will not be accepted
• Prior travel experience preferred
• Floating within med-surg units is required; floating outside of med-surg only for observer need or helping hands/tasking in 4-hour increments
• Schedule is made by scheduler with efforts to accommodate scheduling requests; block scheduling cannot be fully guaranteed
• Charting system: Cerner
• Orientation consists of 1 day of computer training/CBT/regulatory and one 12-hour shift on the floor
• Scrub color: Any color scrubs permitted; no logos from other health systems
• All clinicians must clock in and out at the facility
• Required certifications: BLS (AHA)
• BSN not required

This acute care facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center offering comprehensive medical services across multiple units. The Med Tele unit operates with a strong support structure including centralized telemetry monitoring, dedicated charge nurses, house supervisors on every shift, and in-house respiratory therapy available around the clock. The facility utilizes Cerner as its electronic charting system and is committed to providing high-quality care for a diverse patient population with complex medical needs.
