Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Location: Winston-Salem, NC 27157 (North Carolina nursing jobs)
• Facility: Comprehensive Cancer Center – 40-bed unit
• Assignment Type: 13-week travel nursing contract (Start: 9/15/2025 – End: 12/13/2025)
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts (6:30pm – 7:00am)
• Hours: 36 guaranteed hours per week
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1570-$1680
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Coverage: Travelers work 75% of holidays
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue
• Parking: Free, on-site parking

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (North Carolina or compact state)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg or Telemetry RN experience (Oncology nursing experience preferred)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• NIHSS certification (Resource Team requirement)
• ONS and OCN certifications preferred
• Skills in port access, blood product administration, electrolyte management, end-of-life care, pain and symptom management, PIV starts, and cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Epic EMR experience preferred

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to hematology and oncology patients, including those with leukemia and patients requiring symptom management or end-of-life care
• Manage a patient load of 4-5 patients per shift, depending on acuity
• Perform port access, administer blood products, and manage electrolyte imbalances
• Deliver pain and symptom management, including palliative and end-of-life care
• Initiate PIV starts and interpret cardiac rhythms
• Collaborate with CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and other clinical support staff
• Float within the cancer center and to other med-surg units as needed
• Verify telemetry strips each shift
• Utilize Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
