  • Shift: 12-hour days (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), 3 shifts per week
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week

PICU Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of recent pediatric nursing experience in a PICU or similar pediatric critical care setting
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ASN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
  • Active Illinois RN license in good standing (Illinois nursing jobs)
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications from the American Heart Association
  • Strong communication, critical thinking, and teamwork skills

PICU RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive pediatric intensive care to critically ill children in the PICU
  • Implement evidence-based nursing procedures and pediatric care protocols
  • Conduct initial patient assessments and develop individualized pediatric care plans
  • Administer medications, perform dressing changes, insert catheters, and initiate IV therapy
  • Monitor intake and output for all assigned pediatric patients
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all nursing care activities
  • Collaborate with Pediatric Intensivists, Hospitalists, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Communicate effectively with pediatric patients and their families through hourly rounding, bedside reports, and whiteboard updates
  • Serve as a mandated reporter for suspected child abuse or neglect cases
  • Identify personal learning needs and pursue ongoing professional development in pediatric nursing
