Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details
- Location: Springfield, IL 62781 (Illinois nursing jobs)
- Healthcare Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Cardiac Stepdown Unit
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 12/15/2025 – End: 3/16/2026)
- Nursing Shift: Night shift, 12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15); 3x12 or 4x12 per week
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Population: Adult cardiac patients (Avg. Daily Census: 38)
- Charting System: Cerner
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Cardiac Stepdown, Intermediate Care (IMC), Telemetry, or similar clinical support units
- Active Illinois RN license (required at time of application)
- Certifications: ACLS and BLS (AHA or Red Cross only); NIHSS preferred
- Experience with Cerner electronic charting system
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital experience preferred
- Ability to float to similar nursing units as needed
- Availability to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult cardiac patients and those with complex medical needs
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms; respond rapidly to cardiac emergencies
- Manage pre- and post-cardiac procedures including angiogram, cardiac catheterization, cardiac surgery, sheath removal, and TR band application
- Administer and titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips
- Perform IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line care
- Care for patients with feeding tubes, surgical drains, chest tubes, and respiratory support devices (CPAP/BIPAP, HFNC, oxygen therapy)
- Implement isolation precautions and provide advanced wound care, including wound vac management
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, etc.)
- Float to similar units as required to meet facility needs
- Participate in orientation and ongoing nursing education modules
