Unit Information

• Unit Name: CVICU
• Number of Beds: 16
• Patient Ratios: 1:2, 1:1 for certain device patients
• Unit Staffing:

  • Free floating charge nurse available
  • Unit secretary and Administrative Care Tech available Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Student Nurse Externs on variable shifts

Equipment and Documentation

• Type of Equipment:

  • Phillips bedside telemetry monitors
  • Hill-Rom beds
  • Alaris IV pumps
• Documentation System: Meditech

Scheduling Requirements

• Weekends: 2 weekends per month
• Holidays:

  • 1 summer holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day)
  • 2 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)

Floating Policy

• Employees may float as needed, typically to other ICUs but can include other floors.

Patient Care Requirements

• Certifications Required:

  • BLS
  • ACLS
• Requested Skill Set:

  • Strong critical care experience, including CVICU experience
  • Advanced skills in PA catheter and hemodynamic monitoring
  • Preferred experience with IABP, Impella, and CRRT
• Procedures Performed:

  • Care for immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients, including ECMO, Centrimags, and HM3 LVADS
  • Central line insertion, Swan insertion, intubations, etc.

Dress Code

• Required uniform: Scrubs in black, red, or galaxy blue; scrub jackets/vests only.
