PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

  • Location: Roanoke, VA 24014 (Virginia nursing jobs)
  • Healthcare Setting: Resource Nursing Pool – PCU/Medical-Surgical Units
  • Contract Type: Travel nursing assignment
  • Start Date: December 8, 2025
  • End Date: March 9, 2026
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $2020 - $2070
  • Patient Population: Adult & Geriatric patients
  • Charting System: EPIC (EPIC experience required)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
  • Holiday Requirement: One holiday per 13-week contract

PCU RN Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or Compact State
  • Minimum 2 years of recent PCU/Stepdown nursing experience
  • Current ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association preferred)
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health record system
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, and blood product administration
  • Skilled in central line care, tracheostomy management, and non-invasive airway support (nasal cannula, CPAP, BiPAP, chest tubes)
  • Competency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and titration of cardiac drips
  • Ability to float between all PCU and Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • COVID-19 and Flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in PCU and Medical-Surgical units
  • Float between units based on staffing needs (may float 2-3 times per shift)
  • Perform and manage IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line care
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms, interpret dysrhythmias, and respond to emergencies (Rapid Response/Code teams)
  • Manage PCA and heparin protocols, administer IV insulin, and care for endocrine/metabolic conditions
  • Support patients with non-invasive airway management and tracheostomy care
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, and Social Services
  • Maintain accurate clinical documentation using EPIC
  • Participate in orientation and complete required training modules
