Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

- Healthcare Setting: Cardiac Stepdown / Telemetry Unit
- Contract Type: Travel RN contract
- Start Date: December 29, 2025
- End Date: March 30, 2026
- Duration: 13 weeks (option to extend)
- Shift: 12-hour nights (18:45 - 07:15), 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 weeks (flexible)
- Unit Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1700-$1750
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent cardiac stepdown or telemetry nursing experience
- Active RN license in North Carolina or compact state (required at time of start)
- BLS & ACLS certifications (required)
- NIHSS certification (required)
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Ability to float within hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Proficient in cardiac telemetry, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath, cardiac drip management (including titration), chest tube management, and non-invasive airway management
- Preferred: Arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, and charge nurse experience
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with cardiac conditions (atrial fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valve disorders, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, and more)
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage cardiac drips, and perform sheath removal
- Care for patients post-cardiac and vascular surgeries (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, Watchman procedure, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, amputations, pacemaker placements, etc.)
- Utilize specialized equipment: Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires
- Document and communicate patient care using EPIC and SBAR systems
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory services, radiology, pharmacy, social services)
- Participate in storm/hurricane team response as needed during contract
- Float to other nursing units based on skill set and census requirements
