PCU RN Job Details – Charleston, WV
- Location: Charleston, WV (25301) – West Virginia nursing jobs
- Unit: 5 South Trauma Stepdown (IMC/PCU)
- Contract Type: Travel nursing contract
- Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: December 18, 2025
- End Date: March 19, 2026
- Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (7:00pm – 7:00am); 3x12 or 4x12 per week
- Hours per Week: 36 guaranteed
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
- Orientation: 16 hours, every other Thursday
- Unit Details: 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, multidisciplinary support
- Patient Ratios: Floor RN 1:5, Stepdown RN 1:3
- Parking: Free for travel nurses
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1680-$1730
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active WV or Compact RN License (pending license acceptable)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience in acute care settings
- At least 1 year of experience in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or Stepdown nursing
- BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association)
- CPI and Fit Test (can be completed during onboarding)
- TNCC preferred
- Flu vaccine required (medical exemptions only)
- Ability to float within scope to meet facility needs
- Must reside at least 100 miles from facility (75-99 miles considered case-by-case)
- First-time travel nurses accepted if experienced in ICU/Trauma
- Minimum 2 manager/charge references within past 2 years
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric trauma and surgical patients
- Monitor and manage patients in a stepdown/intermediate care unit
- Perform IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry, and conscious sedation
- Administer and manage critical drips (amiodarone, cardizem, precedex, dopamine, dobutamine, insulin, nitro)
- Care for patients with chest tubes, wound vacs, tracheostomies, PEG/feeding tubes, and arterial lines
- Interpret and manage dysrhythmias; respond to rapid response/code situations
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services)
- Float to other units within nursing scope as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation using Cerner EMR charting system
