PCU RN Job Details
- Location: Washington, DC 20007 (Georgetown – top DC healthcare jobs)
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
- Unit: ED Boarder - IMC RN (Progressive Care Unit)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/5/2026, End: 4/6/2026)
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12 hours per week (19:00 - 07:30)
- Hours: 36 per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1610 - $1730
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent PCU, IMC, or Stepdown RN experience
- At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment (travel nurse jobs preferred)
- Active DC RN license (pending license accepted with proof; must be in hand prior to start)
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Proficiency with Cerner charting system
- Clinical skills: MS/Tele, Telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, IV therapy/phlebotomy, insulin drip titration, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, renal failure, isolation precautions
- Preferred: Cardiac Telemetry, ER Holding, PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown experience
- COVID-19 patient care required
- Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Two supervisor references required
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients boarding in the Emergency Department (ED) awaiting inpatient bed placement
- Manage a patient ratio of 1:4-5, caring for adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients with diverse diagnoses (neurology/stroke, orthopedics, oncology, transplant, end stage liver/kidney disease, gastroenterology)
- Utilize Cerner for electronic charting and Pyxis for medication management
- Perform advanced nursing procedures: telemetry monitoring, IV therapy, insulin drip titration, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis care
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services
- Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed
- Maintain strict infection control and isolation precautions
