PCU Registered Nurse Job Details

  • Location: Wilmington, NC 28401 (North Carolina nursing jobs)
  • Assignment Type: Travel Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
  • Unit: Cardiac Telemetry – Progressive Care Unit
  • Start Date: January 5, 2026
  • End Date: April 6, 2026
  • Contract Duration: 13 weeks (option to extend up to 26 weeks)
  • Shift: Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1700 - $1750
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4 for surgical step down, 1:5-6 for lower acuity
  • Scrubs: Navy
  • Unit Orientation: 24 hours
  • Weekend Requirement: 4 shifts per 4 weeks (flexible)

PCU RN Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience on a cardiac floor or in a PCU/Stepdown setting
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or compact state (required at start)
  • BLS & ACLS certifications (required)
  • NIHSS certification (required)
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start
  • Proficient in cardiac telemetry, sheath removal, dysrhythmia interpretation/management, post-MI care, pre/post cardiac cath, and management/titration of cardiac drips
  • Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleuravac), non-invasive airway management (CPAP/BIPAP, nasal cannula), and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown care
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
  • Ability to float within the hospital as needed (not first to float)

PCU Registered Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and vascular conditions
  • Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, manage cardiac drips, and perform sheath removal
  • Care for post-cardiac and vascular surgery patients (CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO, VATS, carotid endarterectomy, FEM-POP bypass, amputations, and more)
  • Utilize specialized equipment: Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, and more)
  • Document patient care using Epic and follow SBAR communication protocols
  • Participate in unit rotation and float to other units as required
  • Be prepared to work as part of the Storm Team/Hurricane Team during catastrophic events
