Travel RN Opportunity – Med-Surg Cardiac Medical Unit

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit: Med-Surg Cardiac Medical Unit
  • Number of Beds: 23 (plus 1 treatment room)
  • Staffing:
    • Total Staff: 58
    • Day Shift: CNC/Charge Nurse, 6 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 MT, 1 Dept Coordinator (until 7pm)
    • Night Shift: CNC/Charge Nurse, 5 RNs, 2 PCTs, 1 MT
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Day/Evening RNs: 1:4
    • Night RNs: 1:5
  • Equipment:
    • Telemetry monitoring (some rooms hard-wired)
    • Vein finder for IV therapy
    • Portable and continuous pulse oximetry
    • Manual/automatic vital sign machines
    • Blood glucose monitors
    • Mechanical lifts
    • Dopplers
  • EMR System: Allscripts with medication scanning and soft-lab capabilities
  • Patient Population:
    • Cardiac medical patients (hemodynamically stable MI, acute/chronic heart failure, new onset Afib with/without RVR, stable dysrhythmias)
    • Procedural patients (cardiac caths without interventions, ablations, cardioversions, ICD, pacers, CardioMEMS, pericardial drains)
    • Patients requiring cardiac drips (Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Dopamine renal dose, Dobutamine, Milrinone, Lasix up to 40mg, insulin drips)
    • ICU transfers, neuro patients (CVA), pulmonary patients requiring BiPAP, high-flow oxygen, and Salter therapy

Required Skills and Certifications

  • Must Have:
    • Cardiac telemetry knowledge
    • ACLS certification
    • Experience with cardiac medical, procedural patients (caths), and cardiac drips
  • Preferred:
    • Strong medical-surgical background with telemetry experience
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS
    • BLS
    • NIH Certification
  • Licenses:
    • Registered Nurse License

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Cardiac catheterizations (left/right, femoral/radial approach) without intervention
  • Pacers, ablations, cardioversions, electrophysiology studies
  • Administration of cardiac drips including Amiodarone, Diltiazem, Dopamine (renal dose), Dobutamine, Milrinone, Lasix, and insulin drips

Work Environment and Expectations

  • Personality Fit: Engaging, team-oriented, flexible/adaptable, patient-centered
  • Floating Areas: Within similar units
  • Dress Code: Hospital scrubs
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required; on-call as applicable

This position is ideal for RNs with strong cardiac telemetry skills and experience caring for complex cardiac patients in a fast-paced medical-surgical environment.
