Charleston Nursing Job Details

  • Location: Charleston, SC (29407) – South Carolina healthcare jobs
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1530-$1570
  • Assignment Length: 13-week travel RN contract (Start: 1/5/2026 – End: 4/6/2026)
  • Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM), Monday through Thursday
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekends & Holidays: No weekends or holidays required
  • Unit: Six-bay, 23-hour observation unit within a surgery center PACU
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Active South Carolina or Multi-State/Compact RN license (license in hand preferred; pending considered with proof of application)
  • Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in cardiac stepdown, observation, or surgical short stay units (2 years preferred)
  • BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Strong clinical skills in airway assessment, IV initiation and maintenance, medication reconciliation, phlebotomy, conscious sedation, and pre/post-op care
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary healthcare environment
  • Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality nursing care to patients in a 23-hour observation unit, including pre- and post-operative care
  • Monitor, assess, and document patient status and progress in accordance with clinical protocols
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and OR staff to ensure safe and effective patient care
  • Administer medications, perform IV therapy, and provide conscious sedation as needed
  • Maintain a patient ratio of 1:3 (max 1:6) alongside a team of RNs and Patient Care Technicians (PCTs)
  • Float to other observation units as needed or be called off if census is low
  • Ensure compliance with all facility policies, procedures, and healthcare regulations
