PCU Nursing Job Details

- Healthcare Setting: Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Assignment Type: Travel RN Contract
- Start Date: December 29, 2025
- End Date: March 30, 2026
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks (extensions up to 52 weeks available)
- Nursing Shifts: 3x12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12s available
- Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1910-$1960
- Charting System: EPIC
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
- Holiday Requirement: One holiday per 13-week contract
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State)
- At least 1 year of recent PCU or stepdown nursing experience
- Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Proficiency with EPIC charting
- Comfortable with 1:4–1:5 nurse-to-patient ratios
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Previous charge nurse experience preferred
- Ability to float to other clinical units as needed
PCU Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult patients with neurological conditions (neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, epilepsy monitoring, medical overflow)
- Perform cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and Rapid Response/Code team participation
- Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and manage central and peripheral lines
- Administer medications, including cardiac drips (no titration)
- Deliver respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management)
- Implement isolation precautions and infection control protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy)
- Document patient care accurately in EPIC
- Participate in unit-based and hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives
