PCU Nursing Job Details

• Location: Roanoke, Virginia 24014
• Healthcare Setting: Neuro Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
• Assignment Type: Travel RN Contract
• Start Date: December 29, 2025
• End Date: March 30, 2026
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (extensions up to 52 weeks available)
• Nursing Shifts: 3x12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15); 4x12s available
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1910-$1960
• Charting System: EPIC
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week block
• Holiday Requirement: One holiday per 13-week contract

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active RN license (Virginia or Compact State)
• At least 1 year of recent PCU or stepdown nursing experience
• Required certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
• Proficiency with EPIC charting
• Comfortable with 1:4–1:5 nurse-to-patient ratios
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Ability to float to other clinical units as needed

PCU Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult patients with neurological conditions (neurosurgical recovery, stroke management, epilepsy monitoring, medical overflow)
• Perform cardiac monitoring and emergency response, including dysrhythmia interpretation and Rapid Response/Code team participation
• Administer IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood products, and manage central and peripheral lines
• Administer medications, including cardiac drips (no titration)
• Deliver respiratory support (nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management)
• Implement isolation precautions and infection control protocols
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy)
• Document patient care accurately in EPIC
• Participate in unit-based and hospital-wide quality improvement initiatives
