Med/Surg RN Job Details

• Location: Elkhart, IN 46514 (Indiana healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 12/22/2025 – End: 3/23/2026)
• Healthcare Setting: Medical Surgical Unit (MSU)
• Nursing Shift: Nights, 3x12-hour shifts per week (19:00 – 07:00), plus two level-loading shifts every 6 weeks
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $1770 - $1820
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: One holiday per contract
• Floating: Occasional floating to Level 3 departments or affiliate hospitals
• Patient Ratios: 1:5 – 1:6
• Charting System: Cerner
• Scrub Color: Royal Blue

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Indiana or compact state; pending accepted, must be active by start date)
• Minimum 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience (18 months required if no prior travel nursing experience)
• BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Preferred: ACLS, CPI, ONC, PALS certifications
• Experience with Cerner charting system preferred
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility (no local candidates)
• COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to complete up to 8 hours of pre-start online modules

Med/Surg RN Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a busy Medical Surgical Unit
• Manage a patient load of 5-6, including post-surgical, general medical, and trauma cases
• Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and perform patient assessments
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, Radiology, Social Services, and more)
• Float to other Level 3 departments or affiliate hospitals as needed
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner
• Participate in rapid response/code teams as required
• Maintain professional conduct and adhere to attendance policies
