PCU RN Job Details – Toledo, OH
- Location: Toledo, OH 43606 (Ohio nursing jobs)
- Healthcare Setting: Observation Unit (Progressive Care Unit, Med Surg Tele, Med Surg)
- Assignment Length: 13-week travel nursing contract
- Start Date: January 6, 2026
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1680-$1800
- Patient Ratio: 1:4 all shifts
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Required within service line and to affiliate facilities (Toledo, Flower, Bay Park, Wildwood)
- Charting System: EPIC (required)
- Scrub Color: Navy Blue
- Parking: Free
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent acute care experience in PCU, Med Surg Tele, or Med Surg
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Active and valid Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS (all required)
- Proficient with intermediate medication drips (heparin, nitro, cardizem, insulin)
- EPIC charting experience required
- Ability to float within service line and to affiliate hospitals as needed
- Experience caring for adult and geriatric patient populations
- No local travelers within 50 miles
- COVID-19 and Flu vaccines required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Fingerprinting required for certain units (allow 4-6 weeks if applicable)
PCU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a mixed-acuity PCU/Observation setting
- Manage patients with diagnoses including chest pain, abdominal pain, atrial fibrillation, TIA, anemia/GI bleed, dehydration/AKI, syncope, vertigo, COPD, asthma, UTI/pyelonephritis, CHF, seizure, post-op complications, and more
- Administer and monitor intermediate medication drips (heparin, nitro, cardizem, insulin)
- Interpret dysrhythmias and manage cardiac drips (no titration)
- Implement isolation precautions and non-invasive airway management as needed
- Float to Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, Orthopedic, Trauma, Oncology, General Surgery, Uro/Vascular, and Observation units as required
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including physical therapy, respiratory services, and pharmacy
- Accurately document patient care and progress using EPIC
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with a goal of 18-24 hour patient length of stay
- Provide leadership and support as a charge nurse when assigned
