PCU RN Job Details – Richmond, VA
- Location: Richmond, VA 23219 (Virginia healthcare job)
- Assignment Type: Travel RN, On-Site
- Unit: Acute Care Surgery (PCU/Med-Surg Blended Unit)
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM), 3 shifts/week
- Hours per Week: 36
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/5/2026 – End: 4/6/2026)
- Patient Ratios: PCU 1:4, Med-Surg 1:6
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
- Orientation: 16 hours plus online modules (average 6 hours)
- Estimated Weekly Salary: $1880-$2020
PCU Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state (required at submission)
- Minimum 1 year of recent PCU or acute care RN experience (2 years preferred)
- Current ACLS and BLS certifications (American Heart Association preferred)
- Proficiency with Epic electronic health record (EHR) system
- Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation, IV initiation/maintenance, telemetry, and conscious sedation
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
- Previous charge nurse and Level 1 Trauma Center experience preferred
- Ability to float within scope as needed
- Two professional nursing references required
PCU RN Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality, patient-centered nursing care to adult surgical patients, including bariatric, colorectal, plastic, urology, and oncology cases
- Monitor and manage patients undergoing specialized procedures (e.g., Continuous Bladder Irrigation, flaps, microsurgery, HIPEC, Whipple procedures, leech therapy)
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, radiology, pharmacy, social services)
- Utilize Epic EHR for accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in self-scheduling and provide weekend coverage as required
- Maintain compliance with hospital policies, including natural nail policy and orientation completion
- Provide compassionate care in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital environment
