Med/Surg RN Job Details
- Location: Brownwood, Texas 76801 (Central Texas nursing jobs)
- Unit: Medical-Surgical (Med/Surg) – Adults & Geriatrics
- Assignment Type: Travel RN Contract
- Start Dates: January 5, 2026 or January 19, 2026 (must be available for one)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekly Hours: 36
- Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $1610 - $1730
- Weekend Requirement: 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Orientation: 40 hours (includes online modules)
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Current and active RN license (Texas or compact state)
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg RN experience
- Certifications required: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS
- Travel nursing experience preferred
- Experience with Allscripts or Altera (Altera/Allscripts charting systems preferred)
- Ability to complete required labs within 72 hours of offer acceptance
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
- Must pass facility drug screen upon arrival (includes marijuana)
- Not accepting local candidates within 150 miles of Brownwood, TX
Med/Surg RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a 13-bed Med/Surg unit
- Manage patient ratios of 5:1 during night and weekend shifts
- Perform and manage clinical procedures: blood product administration, central line blood draws, chest tubes, colostomy care, CBI, CPAP/BiPAP, feeding tube care, wound care, and more
- Interpret arterial blood gases and manage oxygen therapy
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services)
- Participate in rapid response and code teams as needed
- Float to other units and provide call coverage as scheduled (one call shift per 6-week schedule)
- Document patient care accurately using hospital charting systems
