Medical Surgical RN Job Details

- Duration: 13 weeks
- Shift: 3x12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Charting System: Cerner EMR
- Scrub Color: Any solid color
- Parking: Free with permit
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical RN experience in acute care settings
- Active Illinois RN license (or in application process)
- BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross)
- Experience with Cerner charting preferred
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills: blood product administration, peripheral line care, PICC line management
- Knowledge of isolation precautions and infection control
- Willingness to float within scope to meet facility needs
- Ability to work 2 out of 3 major holidays if assignment spans holiday period
- Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
Medical Surgical RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses such as GI bleed, bowel obstruction, colon cancer, bowel resection, diverticulitis, cholecystitis, alcohol withdrawal, appendicitis, and pancreatitis
- Administer medications and treatments including TPN, tube feedings, heparin drip, amiodarone, and Lasix
- Perform IV therapy, blood product administration, and manage peripheral and PICC lines
- Implement and monitor isolation precautions and infection control protocols
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: physical therapy, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams
- Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed
- Document patient care accurately using Cerner EMR
- Participate in orientation and ongoing clinical training
