Texas ICU RN Job Details

• Location: Plainview, TX 79072 – Explore nursing jobs in a welcoming West Texas community with easy access to outdoor recreation.
• Healthcare Setting: Short Term Acute Care Hospital, Level IV Trauma Center
• Unit: Med-Surg ICU West 2
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/12/2026 – End: 4/13/2026)
• Nursing Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 – 07:00), 36 hours/week
• Weekend Coverage: Required (6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule)
• Orientation: 40 hours
• Patient Ratio: 1 RN : 3 Patients
• Charting System: Epic EMR

ICU RN Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse license (Texas or Compact RN license)
• Minimum 1 year of ICU nursing experience
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS
• Proficiency with Epic charting system
• Ability to work independently and serve as charge nurse in a low-acuity ICU
• Willingness to float to Med-Surg as charge nurse or floor nurse
• 2 supervisory references covering 1 year within the last 3 years
• Commitment to work 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)

ICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric ICU patients
• Monitor and manage patients with DKA, sepsis, A-fib with RVR, and other critical diagnoses
• Perform procedures: arterial line management, chest tube insertion/removal, ventilator management, wound care
• Administer emergency medications, blood products, and titrate cardiac/vasoactive drips
• Interpret arterial blood gases and cardiac dysrhythmias
• Implement infection prevention and isolation protocols
• Float to Med-Surg units as needed, serving as charge nurse or floor nurse
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, radiology
